About the New Columbia Heights Blog

Hi, my name is Andrew Wiseman and I write New Columbia Heights. I've lived in the neighborhood since 2007 and in DC since 1998, when I came for college at GW -- I liked the city and stuck around. I was born in PG County and moved around a lot as a kid, my dad was in the Air Force.

I work as a geographer/map guy for a living and I do this blog because I enjoy it. When I moved to the neighborhood I was looking for a good neighborhood news source and didn't find one, so I decided to do it myself.

I write about neighborhood news, events, arts, history, interesting people, new businesses (or sadly, businesses closing,) food, music and a lot more.

I'm always looking for things to write about, so don't hesitate to contact me -- newcolumbiaheights(at)gmail[dot]com. You can follow the blog on twitter at @newcolumbiahts and I'm @wisemana.

As for the name of the blog, I wanted to call it "Heights of Columbia," but that was taken by a now-defunct blog. Originally it was New (Columbia) Heights as in "new heights" but I thought that was corny so I dropped the parentheses.

Thanks for reading.

  1. My name is Ernest Johnson, native washingtonian and long time columbia heights resident. I am running for ANC1A01 to bring some long overdue real results to this single member district. Early voting starts October 22nd and I would love to have your support. Not enough space here to talk about my accomplishments and SMD goals but, please ask around. Andrew Wiseman will be publishing my response to his questionnaire shortly and I hope that helps. Thanks for your time.
