Obama for America debate-watching party this evening, lawyers especially wanted

Just got this from a reader, another debate-watching party tonight especially for people who'd like to get involved in the Obama-Biden campaign.

Obama-Romney Debate Watching Party -- Wednesday, October 3rd -- Columbia Heights neighborhood

We are hosting an Obama-Romney debate watching party this Wednesday, October 3rd.  It will be held at 2750 14th Street NW, #PH-9, from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.  The building is located at the corner of 14th and Girard Streets NW, the one with the Dunkin' Donuts in the lobby.

The Obama/Biden campaign is asking for attorneys and legal professionals to attend the party, but anyone is welcome.  We have a big beautiful HD television on which to watch the debate.  Please RSVP at (202) 491-4211 or at andrewgerst@hotmail.com if you are interested.  Thanks.

So some guy wants random lawyers to come to his personal condo to watch the debate? Why?

This did initially strike me as strange as well, but I'm guessing the campaign is trying to recruit lawyers who can poll watch in Virginia on election day to make sure that people are not being denied the opportunity to vote.

That is exactly correct. I am the person hosting the debate watching party. The Obama/Biden campaign is interested in having individuals with legal training to help ensure that every vote is protected, especially in Virginia, which is right next door to D.C. and is a so-called battleground state.
