Bizarre: shooting in IHOP on Sunday morning

I don't like to write about crime, but this is too crazy not to: a man was shot at about 6:30 am on Sunday inside the IHOP on Park Road Irving Street.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. Police are not sure of the motive and are looking for suspects: "an African-American man with dreadlocks, about six-one, 165 pounds, who was wearing green pants" and "a light-skinned African-American woman with a heavy build."

Pretty bizarre. If you have any info, call (202) 727-9099.

This is also strange, because when they opened, the owners said they'd have off-duty police officers providing security there 24 hours a day. Maybe the officer or officers just couldn't get there quick enough. from 11 pm to 6 am. So I guess the officers were off-duty when this happened. Maybe they should be on duty for longer hours.

I believe they mean the IHOP on Irving St., around the corner from DC USA.

Wonder if Fox News still thinks this is "Pancakes for Yuppies"? Between bullets flying at IHOP and the soon-to-open homeless shelter across the st. as part of the Highland Park annex, it's not quite Yuppie Heaven just yet.

Credit to IHOP, though... they were by the time I walked past around 10 or so that morning and I didn't even notice anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks, typo on my part. And yeah, very true about that Fox article.

that should have read "...they were open by the time I walked past..."

Yes, this certainly was an unfortunate incident and we certainly hold the victim and his family in our thoughts and prayers. Furthermore, we hope that the perpetrators are quickly apprehended and brought to justice. Which, given the number of security cameras in and around the IHOP, should be soon.
IHOP does indeed have off-duty police officers from 11 pm to 6 am, unfortunately this occurred after 6 am.

"Pretty bizarre" ?? Is that what you wrote .... come on ... that places was just begging for some kind of gang shoot up ... please I went to that once and when the waitress could not even bring me my order or figure out how to get something from the kitchen I stopped going .... that is a scar on the face of a new Columbia Heights neighborhood ... I say close it down ....

Please forgive my pale-white ignorance, but what is it about IHOP that has attracted so much negative attention that it warrants a permanent fixture of security cameras and off-duty police officers?

Just a curious neighbor...

Did you follow up that it was an anti-gay hate crime? http://washington.cbslocal.com/2012/03/15/d-c-police-classify-shooting-and-assaults-as-anti-gay-hate-crimes/
