Hey, you, shovel your sidewalk

Although DC doesn't really enforce its 89-year old shoveling law, it doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

It's really annoying (and dangerous, especially for older or frail people) to walk on icy, snowy sidewalks. I personally kind of like shoveling since it's good exercise, but really, you may prevent you or someone else from falling down and busting their butts.

It would be nice (and a show of good faith in the community) if school officals at Harriet Tubman would shovel the sidewalks around the school property.

It would be even nicer if community volunteers chipped in to help like real neighbors and community advocates would. But then again as long as the field is free for adult kickball and walking dogs its someone else job to show good faith.

I understand the point, William, but I don't think there's any kickball or dog walking on the Tubman soccer field.

I'm always amazed at William's disdain for "gentrification". What he said was just code for this. We all have your number figured out.

For the real. Just because there's only an inch or two, doesn't mean it isn't going to turn into ice in the morning. And, since it's only an inch or two, it's only going to take you a couple of minutes. While you're at it, go ahead and take care of your elderly neighbor; heck, take care of your young neighbor while you're at it.

The issue is around good faith, not the snow. Tubman has shown plenty of good faith as have I. Tubman like many school have their custodial staffs cut, so there really is no DCPS support for such an effort. Rheeform said its not big deal, so-called good faith neighbors drank her Cool-Aid sat back and let the Tubman family fight it alone, now you see feel the results. Good.

I don't have a problem with so called gentrifiers, whatever the hell the term means, just giving it back like it's dished. Taking your own medicine ain't pretty is it. I mainly have a problem with folk who don't want to take their own medicine.

i'd just like to call out the south side of park road between 13th and 11th as being THE WORST BLOCK in every storm at clearing the sidewalk. I don't get it. Seriously not a single house on that block shovels. If you live there, go fuck yourself.

I think it's also a huge issue of the amount of rental properties in the neighborhood. Where I live on Columbia there's a tenant who takes care of some general upkeep, including shoveling/salting our portion of the sidewalk. Can't say it applies to other buildings though.

It would be nice if shoveling started a little later so I'm not woken up at 4am wondering what that "scratch THUD" "scratch THUD" noise is.
