Crazy! Armored truck robbed on 14th Street

Pretty wild story from WJLA: this morning at about 10:15, two guys dressed as construction workers robbed an armored truck at 14th and Irving. They got into a green minivan and were last seen going down an alley between 13th and 14th.

Not to be glib, but another reason why the the city should finish up construction!

  1. Sooo... exactly what does this "armor" protect against? The attackers were really more heavily armed than an armored vehicle??

Guess they "tricked" the driver somehow.

I walked by the crime scene about 11:30 and saw the reporter there. Quite the spectacle.

  2. Very strange... last night I was leaving the Target in CH and the security guard was talking to someone on the phone about how they could not rob/get away with robbing an armored truck.

  3. Femmebot, maybe you ought to tell the cops that rather than posting it on a blog?

I've often wondered what the point of armored trucks is beyond deterrent. There's no way, for example, that the drivers would retreat into the truck and open fire through the portholes those trucks always have. I think for insurance reasons, the protocol must be the same as in any other robbery situation -- just hand the money over.

The other thing that is hard to figure out is how anyone could successfully accomplish a getaway from 14th and Irving in a car. Going any direction from that corner and you're guaranteed to be stuck in traffic for 15-20 minutes.
