Scooter commuter

Thought this was an amusing way to start the day: a couple days ago, I saw this scooter commuter on 14th Street. He turned out of one of the side streets onto 14th up in Columbia Heights, then zoomed down the hill. I wonder if his pushing off leg gets tired.

  1. I guess you could always alternate legs. If I had a shorter commute this could be fun.

  2. I saw this guy today! He was reading his Blackberry while zipping down 14th.

  3. It's kind of funny, but at the same time it's hard to imagine a dumber form of transportation. It's less maneuverable than a skateboard, despite the steering handle; and its tiny wheels get caught in every little road imperfection. The only reason you'd ride one of these things is to try to make some kind of hipster statement.

And if he was reading his Blackberry while rolling down 14th, that conclusively proves that he's dumb.

  4. Try the Xootr. Much larger wheels, at least as maneuverable as a skateboard, and you can actually stop them when going downhill. Excellent daily commuter. They're all over Manhattan during the summer.
