I'm new to the area, so tell me is it safe, clean, respectable for a single white lady? I'm OK with a few kids and rowdiness, but would s it cool for me to be there on a say hot tuesday afternoon?

yes, yes and yes, but it's only open on the weekends until June 21. I added that to the post.

Thanks! I love to swim and I love Columbia Heights more and more every day!

Is there anywhere to swim laps, or is it too crowded?

There should be room, it's a really big pool.

Anonymous - what do you mean is it safe? it's a swimming pool.

Do we as black people want you there? Of course not.

But by your statement, you're racist.

So no, it's not safe for single white lady racists.

Yeah, there's really no way to interpret "is it safe, clean, respectable for a single white lady" other than racism.

The diving board at Banneker is not working. If you also want this fixed, please vote for it here ... http://seeclickfix.com/issues/39704

OMG -- 'single white lady' safety!?! Where to begin?

Well, ignoring that weird comment, I'd say Banneker is a great pool, especially for laps, but has always been too sunny -- no shady spot to sit and cool off.

I wish the kids and grownup pools were closer together, but oh well.

One other issue I have with all city pools is that they open at noon on Sunday. That seems a bit late for summer in DC. I'd love to have a place to dunk at 10 or 11 AM on a hot Sunday morning.

Oh, well, can't complain about free pools.
