Tubman field rented on Sundays by soccer league

I had been wondering if this would happen -- District Sports, a DC sports league, has rented out the Tubman Elementary School Field (aka "Fenty Field") on Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5 pm, until December 13th. Many other fields in the city are also rented like this.

What do you think? Cool that someone is using it, or not cool that they're renting it and nobody else can use it for that time.

Cool that DCPS is using their facilities to raise revenue. Not cool that they can't use their facilities to raise revenue the old fashioned way: by attracting students.

I don't get your comment, how would a public school raise revenue by attracting students?

I think its a very appropriate use of the field. Besides, the field isn't open on weekends, regardless of this league. At least its getting some use.

The DCPS budget is set by the City Council, which ties funding to the number of students enrolled. DCPS has been losing enrollment for years.

I didn't say it was not an appropriate use of the field. If I owned that field I would do the same.

Why don't they open the field during the times it's not being used for the neighborhood kids to use it? They're using it anyway by hopping the fence.
