No, seriously, Rumbero's really is closing

And I'm tired of writing about it. Apparently the Prince of Petworth spoke to somebody else who said yes, it really is closing, so he retracted his previous retraction. Next time I'm going to call them myself!

So what would you like to see take its place? How about a bookstore?

  1. YES! columbia heights is in serious need of a bookstore. i also think the old Score! place would make a good bookstore (knock down a few interior walls), esp once the fountain and plaza open up.

  2. That space really is perfect for the right restaurant, so much so that it would be kind of a shame to see it go to something like a bookstore. Rumberos really just wasn't the right restaurant for the location, and it wasn't good enough to draw people into the neighborhood at its price point.

Personally, I think that a high-quality and moderately priced bistro or Italian restaurant would make a killing in that location.

  3. Lol. Bookstore would close even faster. Snowballs change in hell kind of odds.

I would love to see a real, good Italian sit down and dine type of place (i.e not just pizza plus a random mediocre pasta).

  4. Yes, Italian, ala Dupont Italian Kithchen (DIKs) in ColHi, it would be CHIKs!! How cool is that?

  5. Eddie Leonard's 2. That's all I'm gonna say.

  6. Yes a non-pretentious Italian place like DIK would be awesome (and I love the idea of CHIK)! What are the odds, though?

I tried to like Rumbero's, but it just never gave me an "I've gotta go there" feel. I guess I wasn't alone.

  7. Bread Line needs another location, and this ought to be it.

I'd also like to see Video Americain try to get back into CH / MtP / Adams Morgan. With the right stock and some screenings/film groups, I think they'd have a fighting chance. I know I'd drop my NetFlix or reduce it if there was a video store worth supporting nearby.
