Interesting video on development in Columbia Heights

Found a fascinating video on Youtube about the history of development in Columbia Heights since before the Martin Luther King Jr riots in 1968. It's pretty even handed and has interviews with local activists, politicians, and citizens. I also like the old photos of the neighborhood. Check it out:


  1. It's an interesting video, but the woman's quote that "white people didn't want black people on the subway" is just plain ignorant. It's this type of thinking that really gets me angry and makes me want to leave the neighborhood.

  2. But back in the 60s and 70s when the Metro was being planned, that might have been more of a factor. I don't think she's talking about today.

  3. there are some very good points made in the video, but there are some really ignorant statements too. that's fine, if you're not claiming to be an expert on urban redevelopment.
