Abandoned House Watch: 3004 13th St NW

Abandoned House

It's been sitting with nothing happening to it for awhile, but finally there's some work being done: as you can see they've stripped out the inside (it's just a shell now) and there's a sign out front that says a bank is financing construction.

Glad to see this, as the place was an eyesore on an otherwise nice block, and it was crazy that the city would own an abandoned house rather than sell it to someone who would fix it up. Thankfully, it seems like that's now happening.

Do you know of any abandoned houses? Let me know, newcolumbiaheights(at)gmail(dot)com

This is a great idea. How about a Google Maps mashup with the addresses, as you get them?

before you dive in too far, note that there are other places that are working on vacant property maps as well:

yeah great. Could you add the two apartment-building-like structures on the 700 block of Park Rd NW about 1 door down from the police station?

This is great! You should expand it to include those houses that are vacant but are kept up to look like someone is living there to skirt the city's vacant house tax. If people aren't going to live in houses, they should either pay the vacant rate or sell them to someone who will live in them.
