Express bus service started

So both the new S9 express bus on 16th Street and the Circulator on 14th Street have started running. Has anyone taken them? Are they faster? I saw a bunch of Circulators on 14th this morning -- more than the regular Metrobuses in fact.

The Circulator is only $1 and you can use SmarTrip, while I'm not sure if the 16th Street Express is the regular $1.25 or the $3 for an express bus. I would assume $3, but it doesn't have the line on Metro's fare page.

  1. It looks like the fare for the new S9 is the same as regular MetroBus: http://www.wmata.com/Images/mrel/S9_Timetable.pdf

  2. the S9 express bus is the best thing that ever happened to 16th Street. well, maybe that's an overstatement, but I got from Spring Rd. to K Street in about 1/2 the time it normally takes. Hooray! Sent a "kudos" note to the WMATA folks!

  3. I waited on the circulator (letting a 52 and 54 pass by) this morning to try it out. Other than having to walk down to U street, it was great. Only two other people on the bus (odd at 8:30 in the am) and much faster than the 50s. It stopped at 14th and U and then not again until McPherson.

  4. I was on the S2 this morning and there was a really flustered woman who got on at Crescent Place who wanted to know why an empty S9 had just passed without stopping.

  6. The S9 is incredible. The only thing that could ruin it would be bunching. So long as they run regularly it's worth letting a regular bus go by to take this

  7. I've been riding the S9 this week from Irving Street to Silver Spring, and it's only a little faster, but infinitely less frustrating without 900 stops to make. Today was the first time I saw more than two other people on the bus, and few passengers were freaking out. An older woman kept asking how to tell if it was an S2 or S4 when it said S9 on the front. Apparently bus ads, millions of emails and announcements, flags, and news stories weren't enough promotion?

  8. The 14th St Circulator is amazing. I got to work this morning by McPherson's from U Street in 12 minutes.
