What We're Missing: A barber shop

I was talking to some buddies the other day about this - there really isn't any barber shop (or even fancy salon) in the neighborhood that I know of. There's a few on U Street, like Bang, but that can be pricey, and same with Trim in Adams Morgan. It'd be nice to get a decent haircut for $15 or in the hood - otherwise I have to go to the Wisconsin Unisex Barbershop over in Georgetown, which is a hike.

Or does anybody have any recommendations in the neighborhood?

  2. Seriously? There are barbershops just about every block on Georgia Avenue. Walk east a little.

  3. There's a little shop off 14th on the south side of the little triangle park between Ogden and Oak that I go to. Give it a shot.

  4. I like Hair Cuttery in Dupont Circle. $18 bucks. Is that wrong? Sometimes I run into John McCain's mother, Donna Brazille, and my cousin (who is not a political celebrity, but I like him).

  5. I really like Alex's Unisex on Mt. Pleasant.

  6. Don't visit those barber shops on Georgia. They don't know how to cut a white brotha's hair worth shit. And you'll be made to feel uncomfortable. Been there, done that.

  7. Anonymous (2/25 10:16am), your comment assumes that only white men are interested in finding a good barber shop. Given Columbia Heights' diversity, it is rather remarkable that you're not more inclusive.

  8. Or, it is blantantly obvious to anybody of color that there are barbar shops EVERYWHERE. Of course, unless they are blind...

  9. I'm a big fan of Diego's over in DuPont--can't beat his class, his style, or his price ($20 and worth every dollar!)

  10. I highly recommend Fancis Beauty Salon, at 14th & Ogden. I go there every time. They don't really speak English, but I just tell them I want it short and they do it exactly like I want it. It's really quite an experience. Haircut for $14.

  11. Capitol Letters Writing Center is partnering with TH & T Barber Shop at 1456 Park Rd for their Moustache-a-thon kickoff. Our trial run showed a great haircut, and it's inexpensive.
