Pete's Apizza update

Anybody been back to Pete's lately? I had gone a few times when it opened and was less than impressed, but I've been back lately a few times and it's been really tasty. The cheese is good, the clam is very tasty, and they're all good really. If you wrote them off before, pay them a visit.

The ordering system is still kind of kooky though, you order at one register, then walk 3 feet to the left and pay at another. Shrug.

Pete's is at 1400 Irving Street NW, next to the Metro and Potbelly. Here's their website.

  1. Try the Edge of the Woods with meatballs or chicken on top, its great. Its all a little overpriced for the area, but the staff is pretty friendly, I like Pete's in general.

  2. I went with a couple of friends last night, and they seemed to be having trouble keeping up. The food came out quickly, but they were completely out of clean forks (and didn't seem to notice until we pointed it out). Also, there were lots of people milling around waiting for their takeout.

The food was tasty as always, so I guess they've just got to work out the logistics a little better.

  3. if you're ordering a whole pizza, i strongly recommend the arugula pizza. it sounds icky, but it's totally amazing.

  4. yeah its decent pie, and its new haven "style", but its not new haven "taste". They miss on that and should apolgize to pepe's sallys, paul & eddys, and my favorite, modern...

  5. Hey guys, I'm a manager at Pete's and usually there most days. We've certainly had a lot of improvements staff wise and service wise, but business is increasing every week so we're trying to keep up. There are plenty of New Haven natives who come in and love the pizza, so I think we're doing some right. We have a new fall menu coming out in a week or two with some new sandwiches, salads, soups, pastas and a couple pizza changes. The beer list is ever expanding as well; we'll have Bell's Oktoberfest replacing Oberon on draft. Thanks for all the comments and welcoming us to the neighborhood.

  6. Have the slices become uniformly cut yet? Last time I went, I got the thinnest little sliver of pizza I've ever paid $3 for. Sure, I should have asked for the slice that was 2 and half times as big, but the server had moved on to the next customer...In Chicago, at Bacci, for $3 I would get a slice 4 times the size and a soda.

  7. Sorry about the slice size. If we ever have some that are too small, we give two slices instead. We put a lot of emphasis on uniformly shaped and cut pizzas for slices. If you ever have an issue with your food or service, please bring it up to a managers' attention, we'll be happy to accomidate any problem.

  9. I'm a TRUE pizza fan..Margarita is my favorite. The "NEW" margarita pizza was the worst I've ever had. I think they used regular mozzurella because I got a stomache ache afterwards. I ordered a pie (take out) for three people and no one liked it. I gave it to the alley cats for breakfast! Also, ordering on the phone at 8:00 was a 5 minute wait after two call backs with no pick ups! Will not eat Pizza in Conn for sure!
