Friends don't let friends say "CoHi"

I really don't like "CoHi" as a short form of Columbia Heights. This isn't New York, and it sounds way too consciously hip and real-estate-agenty to me. So, please, sound like a normal person and say the whole thing. If you need to abbreviate it in an email or something, I think CH works and is not obnoxious.

Just a random pet peeve. Anybody else with me?

  1. Nope.

It's a nickname, and as such is supposed to be silly. I sometimes use it with friends who know I'm neither a real estate agent nor consciously hip.

  2. Hell's yeah! I heard Tangysweet might open a second outpost in our hood. Then we can have some real FroYo in CoHi. WHOAAAA!!!!!

  3. Do people actually "say" that? Like, out loud? Is it pronounced "coe-high"? That's awful.

I mean, far be it from me to overreact to something insignificant like that, but I think I'd punch you in the face if I heard you say that out loud.

  5. haha @ Justin's comment.

I've heard the CoHi thing before. It does sound dorky, but I'm sure SoHo also sounded pretty stupid at first.

"Columbia Heights" can either be a lot of syllables or just 3! Clum-bya-heights.

  6. CoHi is just plain wrong. Everyone knows the CoHe is the correct nickname.

  7. Given the amount of hipsters in the neighborhood, I'm surprised we don't hear it MORE often. Ex: "My bro is DJing at a basement party CoHi tonight. Can I borrow your blazer?"

  8. I keep hearing "Chites" as some version of CH. Someone said we should be Cocoa Chites so no one confuses of us with Cathedral Heights. I like that a hell of a lot better CoHi

  11. yuck. soho is abbreviating a made up name to describe something that didn't have a name. columbia heights is an actual neighborhood name. stick with it, i say, no abbreviation!

  12. I think it's kind of funny. I doubt it will catch on though, so I wouldn't worry too much.

  13. I'm still trying to get people to refer to Park View as the Peeve.
